On to the next project. We wanted to save some money while being creative so we decided to make our own headboards for the rooms. We had to make 3 and if you buy a fabric headboard at 500$ that's almost 1500$ big ones. I was thinking that we could use that money elsewhere and save over 1300$ by doing them ourselves.
First we took plywood and had lowes cut the dimensions to just over the width of a standard bed And the height we desired. It was various dimensions for each headboard. The most important is the width. So measure your bed then add 2 1/2 more inches to balance out the width of the pillows and blankets.
I would recommend gloves or sanding first bc of the splinters. We got a few of them.
Next we cut the foam to fit. We basically laid the plywood on top and drew a straight line. The foam is an old mattress topper that we were going to throw out because it felt uncomfortable. It was a queen size and we cut it in half for the two queen headboards. I bought an inexpensive king foam mattress from kohls 30$ at the most.
After batting we measured the fabric to size.
30 mins later we had 2 awesome headboards for about 25$ a piece.
We decided to use heavy duty picture hooks to hang on the wall. Screwed connects to the headboard and the wall then hung.
This is a much better look.
Bri likes it.
I would suggest building your own furniture any day. You have a sense if achievement.
