The time is getting very close to an exciting moment in our lives. Charlie is a wonderful man to me and he will make an even better father one day. Somedays I start to get cold feet about the wedding but then I realize that with Charlie's sweet hand it's all worth taking this journey.
On June 14 we went to the town hall and got our marriage license. It was truly a breath taken moment. We were both a little nervous and anxious at the same time. The process was smooth, quick, and easy. We kinda wanted them to question us on why we wanted to get married.? How long we were together? It's funny to know that on June 12, 1967 (less than 50 years ago) Charlie and I were not allowed to be married because of our skin color.
Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967),[1]was a landmark civil rights decision of theUnited States Supreme Court which invalidated laws prohibiting interracial marriage.
The case was brought by Mildred Loving, a black woman, and Richard Loving, a white man, who had been sentenced to a year in prison in Virginia for marrying each other. Their marriage violated the state's anti-miscegenation statute, the Racial Integrity Act of 1924, which prohibited marriage between people classified as "white" and people classified as "colored." The Supreme Court's unanimous decision held this prohibition was unconstitutional, overturning Pace v. Alabama (1883) and ending all race-based legal restrictions onmarriage in the United States.
The decision was followed by an increase in interracial marriages in the U.S., and is remembered annually on Loving Day, June 12. It has been the subject of two movies as well as songs. In the 2010s, it again became relevant in the context of the debate about same-sex marriage in the United States.
We also got a post card from
Mickey and Minnie Mouse. We sent them an invitation to the wedding, but they had other plans and sent a post card.
The handsome fiancé surprises me at every turn. We really needed a serving set so to my surprise he secretly went out and purchased a beautiful set.
It's engraved 'To my wife, served with love'. Our names and year. I have the best future husband ever.
